At the Joan Jett show, I was jumping to Crimson and Clover in my comfy high wedge sandals, and there was a weird popping sensation in my foot. Soon it became nearly impossible to walk in flats. Then I headed to the podiatrist, who said those hard-to-spell words: plantar fasciitis. He had that magic cortisone shot. And then there was physical therapy. Nobody along the way told me where to go for new shoes, they just said "get supportive."
I went to an old person orthopedic shoe store where they fitted me with Brooks sneakers and little support socks that make my toes look like sausages. And a pair of flip flops by Vionic that I could barely walk in, initially, because of the high arch. I could wear these around the house, because I should no longer go barefoot or wear my flat Old Navy flips. They're my favorites.
After spending two months in PT, I purged my shoe collection of Payless flats, too-high heels and weak sneaks and went on a shoe shopping spree. It is, unfortunately, a new era. But one that I have invested in quite well I think. This is just the summer collection...
I joke and say I'm a brand ambassador for Vionic, but after this post you might just believe it. I have purchased Vionic shoes at the orthopedic shoe store, on 6pm, and on Vionic's own site. I was totally sold on them after watching their company sales guy on QVC. You know I'm a closet QVC lover. I rarely buy anything from them but I do own a Joan Rivers trench coat. The shoes are basically made for people with PF. Check out the deal with their sneakers, totally cute. The arch is so supportive and the cushioning is a dream.
These comfy cuties were on the clearance table at the orthopedic store. I snatched them up because Vionic is not cheap. I'm wearing them now. Footbed feels great. I was afraid I would be unable to find supportive sandals where the heel is lifted as well as the arch. Found. My mom calls these "dress sandals" -- whut?
Sorry about my goofy gnarly feet. They make a couple more appearances here.
I haven't worn these yet. They're silver loafers I got just for work. I haven't worn them because I keep wearing other shoes...
These are Clarks. The answer to my love for ballet flats. Not quite ballet. But so comfortable. They're not super duper supportive, but they are well-cushioned, and so far I haven't had any problems spending 10 hours a day in them. The only glitch is...
...this doohicky on the heel totally caused blisters. Just added a piece of moleskine to it.
These are more ballet-y. Rockport. Available in wide width! Hidden wedge! Comfy. So now for work I can alternate among the Clarks, the Rockports and the Vionics.
OK. I know I'm a little crazy. I have two pairs of Vionic flip flops, same style, different color. These are the black ones that I use outside of the house and to get pedicures and all that. I also have a pair of them in blue that I got on clearance that I use inside the house. So. There's my secret. But wait, there's more...
...I also have these! Because leopard! And wedge! And you can see in this photo how the molded footbed looks.
SPEAKING OF LEOPARD! I just got back from Spain where I wore these sneakers every day. I had hoped they'd make me look like less of a tourist, but, alas, no. However, they were so comfortable I didn't have sore feet on any of the days I was walking all over Madrid.
And they're Vionic. But good luck trying to find them now.
There's my new shoe story. If you have PF share yours!
I must try a pair of the V's!!!!
