I used the one hour wait for the doctor to Tweet, catch up on Facebook, and edit the 300 photos I had stored on my smartphone. Thank God for the smartphone, or my type-A self would have strangled someone.
When the doctor - I mean, the physician's assistant - blew into the room, he said, breezily, "Well, you're going to have to have surgery to remove that last kidney stone."
He then quickly went through all the fun activities that would happen with my Urethra Franklin, using words like laser blasting which sounds really cool, right?
And I burst into tears. I said, "Stop. Wait - what did you say about surgery?"
"Are you upset? Haven't you ever had surgery? The doctor does a dozen of these every week."
Um, OK. Yeah.
- When a person bursts into tears in a doctor's office, it's usually because she's upset. Don't they teach you that in school? Oh, and by the way, he's actually one of the better P.A.'s I've seen.
- Yes, I've had surgery. But going under anesthesia is not something I'd like to do too many times in my life. Surgery is something I'd like to avoid. Especially since this one seems to involve going in through my hoo-ha, if I interpreted his rapid pantomine of it correctly.
I didn't expect to hear "surgery" news delivered so lightly. Not that it's a grave situation, it isn't, at all. Plus I'm mad at myself for getting upset so quickly.
But it's one more fucking thing to do, another annoyance. And a tube up through the hoo-ha.
I calmed down. I know I have to better advocate for myself with doctors, and that I need to actually talk to an M.D. about this. Also, I'm going to work on avoiding it altogether by jumping up and down and drinking gallons of water.
As usual, I want to know if you, dear reader, have gone through this scopey and blasty procedure.
OMG. No, never had it. But I'd say you deserve a new PA...one who isn't a PITA.

No, never had it. But I did have a colonoscopy and it was no big deal in terms of an outpatient procedure and anesthesia. Of course, it was sedation, not general.
Hubby said without a stent (did PA mention stent?), it's outpatient and it's under general now (they used to use heavy sedation). Are you having at St. Lukes or LV? If the latter, hubby can do anesthesia or recommend someone he trusts.
