And so goes one of the countless quoteable moments of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a sickly fun romp through the mountains of West Virginia, where town-gown relations seem to have gone extraordinarily bad.
You have to see this movie. The casting is pure genius. The director is Sally Fields' son. It's played at SXSW, Sundance, and SouthSide Film Festival in my hometown.
I was feeling kind of blue about not working on the festival after 6 years of intensively working with a great group of people to make the fest happen. As goes anything with me, this year's festival is shaping up to be the best ever, and without my involvement at all. Poor pitiful me. I brought on the blues myself early in 2010 by saying I couldn't handle the stress anymore, and I was right. However, it's really rad to see other people on the board so excited and successful with it, so I take some pride in knowing that I made some connections that got shit done. And got exactly what I wanted.
Last evening's opening night blues were blown away by this movie, which is being distributed widely in Canada, I think, and hopefully in the U.S., because lemme tell ya, we need more movies like this one. A few hundred people in a sold out auditorium laughing riotously, clapping and gasping together, it was the best opening to our little film festival EVER.
Check out the lovely and talented Katrina Bowden (of 30 Rock's dipshit assistant Cerie Xerox fame) as Allie, and I dare you, girls (and some of you guys) to leave the theatre without a hillbilly crush on Dale ("You don't like pancakes? I'll make you something else...")
This was a one-night only screening in these parts but for sure catch it where you can.
My next must-see movie in the fest line-up is Air Doll, a love story involving an inflatable sex doll with a heart. Sounds a little like Lars and the Real Girl but from Japan and with a heart.
Lars & the Real Girl had a heart! Sort-of. No?

Did the doll have a heart? I can't remember. The movie did, but the doll itself...
